gates LUCK

Gates Luck, was born Adam Gates Luck on June 26th 1981. As young Gates Luck grew over the years in the suburbs of Atlanta Ga., art was never present in his life. The common medium of inspiration was family, friends, sports, and a little trouble. It would not be until the age of 23 that a dispassionate young "Luck" would walk out of business school at Kennesaw State University and say, "screw it... this is not me!" With no previous created art, or skills, he presented himself to the KSU School of Fine Art with this "I'm a business student, but I want to become an artist."

As both parties took an obvious leap of faith, in the end, it would be a wise and fulfilling choice. Over the years Gates Luck savored much of the classical studies present in fine art academia. Studying abroad in Italy would only feed his love for the classical form. However devoted to portraying the narrative figures in much of his paintings, he would begin to evolve and change, as all artists must. The odd, and obscure, became intriguing and studied for use in future works. Experimenting with a variety of mediums and techniques is essential for any artist to find his or her voice in art. Some artists treat this approach as an exercise. Gates would use it to create several small bodies of work to satisfy his ever-changing nature, and test the response of viewers, and collectors alike. The favored medium will always be oil, but a need to diversify have always taken Gates on random tangents to explore, and improve. Gates continues to feed this love for creating and art, by painting, sculpting, building furniture, carpentry, or making props for television.
